Sükhbaatar is in eastern Mongolia, between the Gobi-steppe transition zone and the open grasslands approaching the Chinese border.

The province is known for volcanic steppe, sacred hills, salt lakes, caves, and wide grasslands. The Dariganga region, Shiliin Bogd volcano, Altan Ovoo, Taliin Agui cave, and Ganga Lake create a distinctive landscape of lava, legend, and bird habitat.

The province was established in 1943 and named after revolutionary leader Damdin Sükhbaatar. The Dariganga area has a special history as a borderland pasture and craft region, with strong links to eastern Mongolian identity.

Sükhbaatar is closely associated with Dariganga craftsmanship, especially silverwork, decorative metalwork, and elegant horse gear. Horse culture, long song, sacred mountain worship, and Naadam celebrations are especially expressive here.

Livestock herding is central, with sheep, goats, horses, and cattle spread across large pastures. Mining, zinc and coal resources, border trade, small services, and local crafts also contribute to the economy.

Travelers visit Shiliin Bogd for sunrise views, Altan Ovoo for pilgrimage, Ganga Lake for birds and swans, Taliin Agui for cave scenery, and Dariganga villages for craft traditions. The province is excellent for travelers drawn to sacred steppe landscapes rather than conventional monuments.

Summer and early autumn are the best seasons, though spring winds can be strong and winter is exposed. Many attractions are far from Baruun-Urt, so plan with local drivers, fuel, water, and respect for sacred-site protocols.

Shiliin Bogd is one of Mongolia's most revered volcanic hills and is traditionally climbed for strength and renewal. Dariganga silverwork has a reputation far beyond the province itself.

Sükhbaatar is notable for sacred volcanic landscapes, eastern steppe culture, and some of Mongolia's finest traditional metalwork.
